Over the Whitsun weekend from 24 to 25 May 2026, the young participants can give free rein to their creativity and design their own Pingste crowns - a wonderful contribution to preserving this lively regional tradition.
Taking part is very simple: the finished works of art should be photographed and the photos then submitted by email via rathaus@neuenhaus.de by 26 May 2026. The child's name, age and address as well as a declaration of consent from the parents must be sent in order for the participation to be counted. If the crowns are made in groups, the data and consent forms of all participating children should be enclosed - this way everyone can be named on the certificate. The declaration of consent can be downloaded below.
The Pingste crown should traditionally consist of a framework of willow rods and preferably be decorated with oak leaves and natural flowers. The ingenuity, care and overall impression will be judged. The jury is made up of members of Heimatfreunde Neuenhaus eV, who are highly committed to maintaining this special Whitsun tradition.
The public award ceremony will take place on 02 June 2026 at 15:00 in the rooms of the Heimatfreunde, Lagerstraße 19 in Neuenhaus. All participants are cordially invited to attend the award ceremony. Prizes will be awarded to the three most beautiful Pingste crowns and all children will receive a small gift as a thank you. The winners of the first three places will be informed directly by the town of Neuenhaus and invited separately to the award ceremony.
With this competition, the municipality of Neuenhaus, together with the friends of local history, wants to keep the tradition of the Pingstekrone alive - and show that customs and creativity go together wonderfully.
