The Passport Ordinance stipulates that from 1 May 2025, only photographs that have either been taken at the authority or provided by the photographer digitally via a secure cloud without media discontinuity may be used for ID card applications. Paper-based passport photos will no longer be permitted for applications for official identity documents from 1 May 2025.
The fee for a digital photo at the Citizens' Office will be 6 euros - for several documents per person, only a one-off fee will be charged.
Digital pictures can also be taken at certified photo studios and photographers and also at some drugstore chains.
