The current measure roughly covers the town centre of Neuenhaus.
The following streets in the direction of the city centre are affected:
- Veldhausener Straße from Weidenstraße roundabout
- Lager Straße from the entrance to the village
- Uelsener Straße from the level of Hardinger Straße
- Main road from Teichtor.
The following roads are affected along their entire length:
- Morsstraße
- Berliner Strasse
- Castle Road
In these areas, the obligation for cyclists to use the road will be lifted. Bicycle pictograms will be placed on the road to make it clear to all road users that cyclists should also ride on the road in future.
At the crossings to these areas, structural measures will be taken to enable cyclists to switch between the cycle path and the road. Cyclists should be able to safely change from the cycle path to the road.
The town of Neuenhaus would like to draw attention to the changed situation with signs and two banners provided by the traffic organisation.
Other changes include the extension of the 30 km/h zones, the reduction of signs, the construction of 2 crossing aids and the installation of 18 bicycle stands.
The 30 km/h zone on Veldhausener Straße will be extended to the Weidenstraße roundabout and merged with the existing 30 km/h zones on Morsstraße and Seifendamm. This means that in future, 30 km/h will apply in the area of Dackhorstweg, Hafenstraße, Mählersgrund and the "extended" part of Morsstraße. The 30 km/h zone on Wagenhorst will be extended as far as Hauptstraße. The 30 km/h zone on Hardinger Straße will be extended as far as Uelsener Straße. Berliner Straße will be completely 30 km/h.
For all extended 30 km/h zones, the right of way will change to right-before-left at many junctions and crossroads. In the initial period, the changed right-of-way regulations will be indicated at prominent points.
On Veldhausener Straße in front of the Volksbank and on Uelsener Straße between the junction of Berliner Straße and Hardinger Straße, crossing aids are being constructed as lane narrowings.
18 bicycle racks have been installed at the old town hall, around the Hauptstraße/Veldhausener Straße junction and in front of the joint municipal administration building. Some of these are specially sized for cargo bikes. This part of the measure is subsidised by the state of Lower Saxony with approx. 14,400.00 € and has already been implemented.
In the course of drawing up the plans for the measure, the signs in the areas were also recorded. These were checked for their necessity and will be removed if necessary.
The individual measures were implemented in consultation with the lower traffic authority and the traffic committee of the district of Grafschaft Bentheim.
The work was put out to public tender. The contract was awarded to the company Lapis Linga from Lingen. The contract is worth € 164,000.00. The construction work has already begun and is expected to be completed by 10 October. The road marking work and the changes to the signage, including the extension of the 30 km/h zones, are to be carried out from 13 October.
